Abilene, Texas - The Trinity men's and women's cross country teams captured the non-Division I titles Saturday at the Abilene Christian University Naimadu Classic.
HEAD COACH EMILY DAUM
"We had to hold a few key people out for injuries, but we hope to have them back soon. For those that did compete, I think today was a good learning experience. Hopefully we worked out some kinks before we get into the championship part of the season. The women had a strong showing today, led by Haley and Laura putting up strong times against some quality DI competition."
Trinity's women finished atop the 6k field with a score of 18, outdistancing second-place Angelo State (TX) University by 41 points. The Tiger men won the 8k event with 31 points, leading runner-up UT-Permian Basin by nine points.
Each squad garnered its third consecutive team title, as the Tigers earlier won the Alamo City Opener and the Our Lady of the Lake Collegiate Invitational.
Laura Taylor and Haley McFadden led the women's 6k field. Taylor clocked in at 22:34, and McFadden finished five seconds behind her teammate. The two Tigers also turned in the eighth and ninth best times at the distance in Trinity history.
The Tiger men's top finisher in the 8k was Brian Wongchotigul, who placed third at 26:48. Michael Erickson finished fourth, while Jacob Hammond, Keaton Holt, and Austin Brown completed the race in seventh through ninth places.
Trinity will compete September 30 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
