San Antonio - The Trinity volleyball team has been ranked seventh in the final regular-season American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top-25 Poll.
Guided by 35th-year Head Coach Julie Jenkins, the Tigers are sporting a 33-4 record, along with a 19-match win streak. Coach Jenkins was elected by her peers as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Volleyball Coach of the Year for the 14th time in her career,
Trinity opens its 25th NCAA Division III Championship event Friday at Christopher Newport (VA) University in Newport News, Virginia. The Tigers first-round opponent in the eight-team Regional is Hunter (NY) College.
The Tigers gained an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs by winning the SCAC Championship last weekend in Seguin, Texas. Trinity defeated eighth-ranked Colorado College 3-1 to capture its 19th overall conference title. Earlier, the Tigers came out victorious over Austin College in the semifinals.
Avery Tuggle was selected as the SCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and as the SCAC Player of the Year. Tuggle leads the team with 418 kills (3.17/set) and is third in digs with 433 (3.28/set).
Annie Rose Leggett was named to the All-SCAC First Team. She is tops on the Tiger squad with 500 digs (3.79/set) and is second in kills with 341 (2.58/set). Leggett also has fired in a team-best 52 service aces. Emily Ellis joined Tuggle and Leggett on the All-SCAC First Team. Ellis leads Trinity in hitting percentage (.407) and total blocks with 128 (1.05) in her column. Lexie Acevedo is the team leader in assists with 662 (5.56/set).
The Tigers are ranked #1 in the NCAA Division III in team kills (1,817) and assists (1,681).
