Trinity Volleyball Ranked 17th in Preseason Poll

San Antonio - The Trinity volleyball team has been ranked 17th in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Poll.

The Tigers are led by Head Coach Julie Jenkins, who will begin her 35th season at the helm. Coach Jenkins has posted a record 906-393 (.697) since taking Trinity's reins in 1985. Coach Jenkins has amassed a career record of 935-414 (.693), which included a stint in 1984 at NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth University,

The Trinity National Invitational opens the 2019 campaign for the Tigers August 30-31, including 15th-ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) and #25 College of St. Benedict (MN). Trinity hosts Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Schreiner University on September 26.

The Tigers completed the 2018 season with a 25-7 overall record and a #17 national ranking. Trinity took third place at the SCAC Championship and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, marking the 24th occasion the Tigers competed in the postseason event. Aurora (IL) University, ranked 10th in this year's preseason poll, upset the Tigers in the first round, and the two teams will meet again September 7 in Richardson, Texas.

Among the returnees is senior setter Katrina Lieberman, who was elected to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention Team. Lieberman chalked up 1,245 assists last season and was ranked 10th in Division III. She stands in 11th place in Trinity's single-season records.

Sophomore middle blocker Emily Ellis was selected for the All-SCAC Second Team. Ellis made a mark in her first season as a Tiger player, finishing second in conference hitting percentage at .346.
