Volleyball Opens NCAA Tournament Friday in Chicago

San Antonio - The ninth-ranked Trinity volleyball team opens the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Friday at the University of Chicago (IL) in Chicago, Illinois.

Trinity (25-6) takes on Aurora (IL) University (23-8) in Friday's First Round of the eight-team Regional at 5:30 p.m. Central Time. The winner advances to the Regional Semifinals at 5:00 p.m. Saturday against the winner of 10th-ranked Chicago (28-4) and the University of Dubuque (IA) (28-4). The other opening-round matches are #13 Washington University in St. Louis (MO) (25-7) versus Cornell (Iowa) College (18-9), and 12th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University (25-5) versus California Lutheran University (18-11). The Regional Final is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

The winner of the Regional advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals to be held November 15 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Semifinals and Final are slated for November 16-17, also in Pittsburgh.

Led by 34th-year Head Coach Julie Jenkins, the Tigers are competing in their 24th NCAA postseason event. Trinity has finished as NCAA runner-up, captured third place, advanced to the Elite Eight five times, and made it to the Sweet 16 on 12 occasions. Last season, the Tigers lost a hard-fought first-round battle with Pacific Lutheran (WA) University in Georgetown, Texas.

Trinity entered this year's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship as the second-seeded team with a 15-1 SCAC record. Southwestern (TX) University upset the Tigers in the Semifinals at the University of Dallas (TX) in Irving, Texas. But the fighting Tigers bounced back to defeat the host team 3-0 and returned home with third place.
