San Antonio - The ninth-ranked Trinity volleyball team won its sixth straight match with a 3-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Texas Lutheran University Thursday night in Calgaard Gym.
The Tigers cruised to a 25-9 win in the opening set, jumping out to a 13-5 lead and never looking back.
Texas Lutheran rallied late in the second set with five unanswered points on its way to a narrow 25-23 win to draw even in the match.
The final two sets were almost identical. Trinity scored five straight in the third and six unanswered in the fourth to start off both sets, then the Bulldogs rallied to within three with 9-6 scores in each game. The Tigers used 10-3 runs in both sets to pull away and finish off the match victory.
The Tigers upped their overall record to 16-4 and are undefeated in the SCAC with an 8-0 mark.
Texas Lutheran dropped to 5-16 and 2-6 in SCAC competition.
Katrina Lieberman fired in a career-high five service aces, while posting a double-double of 42 assists and 14 digs.
Sarah Mullens led the match with 21 digs in her column.
Madeline McKay recorded a hitting percentage of .364, to go with her double-double of 15 kills and 12 digs.
Annie Rose Leggett contributed 10 digs to the winning cause.
Trinity will next play two SCAC matches on October 13, in Seguin, Texas, taking on Schreiner (TX) University and Texas Lutheran.
