San Antonio - Trinity senior Sarah Mullens has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
The Tiger defensive specialist played a major role in seventh-ranked Trinity's three SCAC victories last weekend. Trinity went undefeated at the SCAC Divisional in Kerrville, Texas, beating Centenary (LA) College, Southwestern (TX) University, and Austin (TX) College.
Mullens highlighted her defensive prowess by posting 23 digs in the win over Austin College. She made 15 digs in the matchup with Centenary and 14 against Southwestern. Mullens recorded 52 total digs in the three matches, averaging 5.20 per set. Mullens also fired in three service aces.
This season, Mullens leads the Tigers with 140 digs for an average of 3.18 per set. Mullens is also tops in service aces with 19 in her column.
Trinity stands at 10-2 overall and is sporting a 4-0 record in conference play. The Tigers will compete Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express Classic in Bloomington, Illinois. Friday's matches include a showdown with the 11th-ranked host Illinois Wesleyan University.
