San Antonio - Trinity's Sarah Mullens has earned the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor for the third time this season.
The third-ranked Tigers went 2-2 last week, beginning with a 3-2 loss to NCAA Division II member St. Mary's (TX) University. Trinity began the SCAC Divisional Tournament with a 3-1 home win over Texas Lutheran University, followed by a 3-2 loss to fifth-ranked Southwestern (TX) University, and a 3-0 sweep of Schreiner (TX) University.
Mullens posted 103 digs (6.1 digs/set) over the four matches to earn the SCAC award for the second consecutive week. She registered 30 digs in each of the matches with St. Mary's and Southwestern, as well as tallying 24 more against Texas Lutheran. Mullens also fired in nine service aces, including four in the matchup with St. Mary's.
This season, Mullens leads the Tigers with 438 digs and 55 aces, and has made her way into the top 20 in Trinity career history in both categories.
Trinity travels to Shreveport, Louisiana, next weekend for the final SCAC Divisional of the campaign. The Tigers play host Centenary College and second-ranked Colorado College on Saturday, followed by Sunday matchups with Austin (TX) College and the University of Dallas (TX).
