San Antonio - Trinity senior outside hitter Kirby Smith has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Smith had an excellent week as the fourth-ranked Tigers went 3-1 at the SCAC Cross-Divisional held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas. Trinity defeated Austin (TX) College, Centenary (LA) College, and the University of Dallas (TX), while losing to second-ranked Colorado College.
In the course of the four matchups, Smith posted 41 digs, 37 kills and five blocks. She registered a double-double against Austin College with 17 kills and 13 digs, and hit .412 in the match with Centenary. Smith accounted for 16 digs and nine kills in the finale with Dallas, along with blocking two shots against the Crusaders and two in the pairing with Centenary.
This season, Smith leads the team in kills with 189 (9.9 per match) and is second in digs at 202 (10.6 per match). Smith needs seven more kills to reach 11th in school history. Her total of career digs has moved her into the top-25 all time at Trinity.
Trinity stands at 16-3 overall, and has a conference mark of 6-1 this season. The Tigers will play two matches Friday in Belton, Texas, starting off with Sul Ross State (TX) University and wrapping up with the host University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
