Seguin, Texas - The 22nd-ranked Tiger volleyball team scored a pair of 3-0 sweeps at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Divisional on Sunday, defeating eighth-ranked Colorado College and Austin College.
Trinity upped its season record to 24-8 overall, which includes a conference-best 13-1 SCAC mark. With the regular season conference season finishing this weekend, that also means that the Tigers have clinched the top seed at the SCAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Austin College November 7-8, in Sherman, Texas.
In Sunday’s opening match against Colorado, three Trinity Tigers registered double-doubles. All-American Maggie Emodi fired in 14 kills and chalked up 16 digs. Erika Edrington dished out 32 assists and picked up 15 digs, while All-American Layne Hubbard had 11 kills and a team-best 18 digs.
All-American Erin Cusenbary hit .316 in the match, with eight kills, two errors, and 19 total attacks. Shannon Courtney recorded 15 digs in the matchup.
Trinity hit a blistering .350 against Austin College, with Cusenbary leading the way at .500 in the match. Cusenbary had 13 kills, three errors, and 20 total attacks. Bridget Bohman contributed a .412 mark, with eight kills, one error, and 17 total attacks.
Emodi was responsible for 11 kills, while Hubbard executed 15 digs, and Courtney had 11. Edrington provided a total of 37 assists in the match.
The final tournament of the regular season will precede the conference tournament, which will be the Trinity National Invitational on Friday and Saturday, October 31-November 1. The Tigers tangle with fourth-ranked Wittenberg University at 6:00 p.m. Friday, with the Tiger seniors being honored at the match. The tournament concludes Saturday with the Trinity meeting Randolph-Macon College at 10:30 a.m., and Hardin-Simmons University at 2:30 p.m.
