San Antonio - Danielle Henkel has been appointed the Assistant Coach of the Trinity Tigers women’s team.
Coach Henkel will assist Head Coach Gretchen Rush, who is beginning her sixth year at the helm. Coach Rush has guided the Tigers to five appearances in the NCAA Division III Playoffs and to an equal number of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships.
Coach Henkel was an assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach from November 2017 to May 2019 at SCAC member Schreiner University, located in Kerrville, Texas. The Mountaineers men’s and women’s tennis teams each finished fourth at the 2019 SCAC Championships. Schreiner’s women’s squad was ranked 20th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III West Region Poll.
A veteran teaching tennis professional, Coach Henkel worked at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas, from 2009-2016, coaching both children and adults. Coach Henkel was director of Newk’s adult program in the summer of 2019.
The versatile Coach Henkel also worked as a physical therapy technician for two years at Schertz (TX) Parkway Physical Therapy.
Coach Henkel played college tennis at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a member of the NCAA Division II. She was team captain her junior and senior years. The Tritons advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time in school history, during her senior season of 2014.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a certificate in trauma from Missouri-St. Louis in 2014. Currently, Coach Henkel is pursuing an online Master of Science degree in sports administration degree from Arkansas State University.
Coach Henkel is a native of Schertz, Texas, located near San Antonio, and attended Samuel Clemens High School.
