Tiger Tennis Trio Advances at Ojai Tournament

Ojai, California - Trinity senior Caroline Kutach and juniors Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen each advanced to the main draw Quarterfinals of the Ojai Singles and Doubles Championships on Thursday.



Unseeded Mary Kaffen won 6-1, 6-2 in her Round of 32 matchup against Katie Wolber from Occidental (CA) College, then scored a huge upset of #2 seed Lilijana Semak from California Lutheran University in the Round of 16. Kaffen won 7-6 (5), 6-1 to move on to the Quarterfinals.

Top-seeded Caroline Kutach began with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sabrina Lieu of University of California-Santa Cruz in the Round of 32, then breezed past Joslin Seaberg from California Lutheran University 6-0, 6-0 to reach the Quarterfinals.

Fifth-seeded Zoe Kaffen started with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Vivian Lee of UC-Santa Cruz, then won 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 16 against Brennan Foreman from CLU to advance.

As the top seed in the doubles draw, the Kaffens received a first-round bye. The duo opened play with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the Round of 16 over Cal Lutheran's Seaberg and Heidi Levanen, moving into the Quarterfinals.



Kutach will take on #7 seed Christie Kurdys of California Lutheran University, while Mary Kaffen is matched up against fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent and #6 seed Esther Bowers from Southwestern (TX) University. Zoe Kaffen is set to play #4 seed Anna Tifrea from Caltech University, and all three Tigers will open up at 8:30 a.m. (PT) on Friday for the chance to reach the Semifinals.

In doubles, Mary and Zoe will face off against fifth-seeded Amanda Rodriguez and Kindall Yeung of Whittier (CA) College on Friday at 2:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday's Semifinals.
