San Antonio - Trinity senior Caroline Kutach was named as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, while juniors Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen were tabbed as the Doubles Team of the Week.
The 19th-ranked Tigers went 2-1 last week. The team started off with a lose to NCAA Division II member St. Mary's (TX) University, but finished the week with shutouts over Schreiner (TX) University and Texas Lutheran University.
Kutach was named Singles Player of the Week for the second time this season. She went 3-0 in the matches at the top spot. After completing her last regular-season home matches against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran, Kutach upped her singles record to 11-3 and is ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region.
The Kaffen twins were also selected as the Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this year. The Tiger tandem went 2-1 in doubles, which began with a tight loss to St. Mary's at #1 doubles. The Kaffens bounced back and won both of their top-line matches against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran. The duo has recorded an 8-8 record at line one doubles and is now ranked sixth in the ITA West Region.
Trinity will defend its conference title this weekend at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Sherman, Texas. The top-seeded Tigers have a bye into the semifinals and will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Schreiner and fifth-seeded Colorado College at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
