San Antonio - Trinity's 19th-ranked women's tennis team closed out its regular season home schedule with a pair of 9-0 wins over Schreiner (TX) University and Texas Lutheran University on Saturday.
Despite being delayed several hours due to weather, Trinity swept the day by winning all of the individual matches in straight sets and improving its record to 11-6 this season.
After winning 9-0 for the seventh and eighth times this season, the Tigers also improve their Division III record to 11-1 on the year.
Seniors Caroline Kutach and Andrea De Leon were honored on the final regular season home matches of the season for the Tigers, and the classmates also teamed up to win line two doubles in both contests.
In addition to the senior recognition, Kutach was also awarded the prestigious Jimmy Moses Award, which is named for one of the members of Trinity's first scholarship team in the late 1950s. The yearly honor is bestowed upon the Trinity player who best represents the enduring spirit and moral character of a Tiger student-athlete both on and off the court. The award was presented by Mr. Moses' daughter, Anne Moses Ledet.
Kutach won line one singles against both Schreiner and Texas Lutheran to improve to 11-3 this season, while De Leon won line two singles against Texas Lutheran.
Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen evened their season record in doubles to 8-8 with a pair of 8-0 victories at line one doubles, while Mary improved her singles record to 8-2 and Zoe moved to 8-5 in singles play.
Paulina Garcia joined Kutach as the only other Tiger player to net two singles wins today, winning at lines three and five to improve to 5-2 this season.
Also scoring singles wins were Hailey Feuer, Jillian Greenberg, Hanna Rafferty, and Annie Wise. Greenberg is unbeaten at 3-0 on the year, while Rafferty is 3-1, Feuer is sporting a 9-4 mark, and Wise played her first match of the year in the starting lineup.
The Tigers will defend their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title April 19-21 at the SCAC Championship in Sherman, Texas.
