San Antonio - Seven members of the Trinity women's tennis team have earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis All-Tournament accolades.
To be selected, a player must have gone undefeated at the SCAC Championship last week at Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 19th-ranked Tigers won their seventh SCAC title in a row and 22nd overall.
Marie Lutz and Andrea De Leon garnered All-Tournament honors at #2 doubles. Lutz became just the fourth player in SCAC history to earn All-Tournament selection in each of her four years of competition.
Caroline Kutach is now a #1 singles honoree and was a second-line recipient last season. Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan received All-Tournament kudos at #3 doubles. The Tiger tandem was All-Tournament in 2015 at #2 doubles, and Kutach picked up the award in the 2017 second-line doubles pairing.
Ashley DeBauge and Zoe Kaffen were All-Tournament selections at second and third singles, respectively. Zoe Kaffen and her sister, Mary Kaffen, teamed up for an undefeated run at #1 doubles. Each had received All-Tournament doubles honors last season with different partners.
Led by fourth-year Head Coach Gretchen Rush, the top-seeded Tigers received a bye to the tournament semifinals. Trinity defeated host Colorado College 5-0 in the semis, and then shut out 31st-ranked Southwestern (TX) University by the same score.
Following the SCAC Championship, the Tigers improved to 13-10 overall and 13-6 against NCAA Division III opponents. Trinity also received the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with invitations to be announced May 7.
The first three rounds of the team tournament are scheduled for May 11-13 at sites to be determined. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship are slated for May 21-23 at Claremont, California. The singles and doubles championships will take place May 24-26, also at Claremont.
