#20 Women's Tennis Beats UT-Dallas in Home Finale

San Antonio – The 20th-ranked Tiger women's tennis team finished off its home schedule with a 6-3 win over the University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday afternoon.


The Tigers and Comets split the first two doubles points, but Trinity's Marie Lutz and Zoe Kaffen gutted out an 8-6 win at line two to put Trinity in front 2-1 heading into singles.

UT-Dallas grabbed back the momentum by tying the match with a win at line two singles.

Zoe Kaffen earned a straight-set win at line three to put the Tigers back in front, and Francesca Canjar expanded that lead with another straight-set win at line six.

Mary Kaffen scored a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 6-3 win to clinch the match for the Tigers, and Ashley DeBauge was able to hang on in the second set to take a 6-1, 7-5 at line one singles.

UT-Dallas was able to take the final point of the match though as Cheyenne Duncan dropped a hard fought match 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-5 at line five.



Trinity evened its season record to 10-10 with the win, while UT-Dallas fell to 7-3 with the loss.

Zoe Kaffen has now won eight consecutive singles contests, while DeBauge upped her streak to five straight wins in singles. DeBauge won at line one singles for the first time this season.

Marie Lutz and Zoe Kaffen remained undefeated at 5-0 in doubles play this season, while the team of Cheyenne Duncan and Caroline Kutach has now won four consecutive doubles matches.



Trinity will face off against fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team Southwestern (TX) University on Saturday, April 14, at 10:00 a.m.
