San Antonio - The 20th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team earned their fifth straight win Friday afternoon after earning a 9-0 win against #37 University of Texas at Tyler.
The Tigers got out to a strong 3-0 lead after doubles and were able to carry that momentum into the rest of the match. Marie Lutz and Zoe Kaffen got things started with an 8-2 win at line three doubles. Andrea De Leon and Mary Kaffen came through next with an 8-3 win at the top spot, and Caroline Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan finished off doubles play with an 8-5 win at line two.
Paulina Garcia was on fire in singles competition and took a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at line six to expand Trinity's lead, and Kutach was able to clinch the match for the Tigers with her 6-2, 6-2 win at line one to earn her 13th singles victory of the season. Francesca Canjar then gave Trinity their sixth point of the match with her win at line five.
Z. Kaffen stayed tough in her match at line three and was able to hang in for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 10-7 victory, and M. Kaffen followed suit with a two-set victory at line four.
De Leon was the last match on the court at line two, and she held on for a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 win to allow the Tigers to sweep the Patriots.
Trinity will return home Sunday, April 8 to take on the University of Texas at Dallas at 1:00 p.m.
