San Antonio - The 18th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team earned an 8-1 win over Hardin-Simmons (TX) University before sweeping East Texas Baptist University to end their home weekend.
Trinity jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play against Hardin-Simmons to get things started off right.
Zoe Kaffen and Marie Lutz were the first team off the court, as they took an 8-1 win at line two. Cheyenne Duncan and Mary Kaffen also picked up an 8-1 win at line one, but the Cowgirls continued to battle and took line three doubles with a 9-7 decision.
Paulina Garcia got things going for the Tigers in singles and picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at line three. Ashley DeBauge followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 win at line two, and Duncan was able to clinch the match at line four with a solid 6-2, 6-1 victory.
The Tigers then faced ETBU in the afternoon and were able to sweep the doubles competition to get out to a 3-0 lead.
Zoe Kaffen and Lutz were once again the first team to wrap up and earned a 8-1 win at line three. De Leon and Mary Kaffen paired up to take the 8-3 win at line one, and Kutach and Duncan finished things up with an 8-4 victory at line two.
Garcia wrapped things up first in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at line six, and Francesca Canjar clinched the match for the Tigers with her 6-0, 6-2 victory at line five.
Debauge, Kutach, Zoe Kaffen and De Leon rounded out Trinity's singles line up and were all able to earn straight set victories to lead the Tigers to their fourth win of the weekend.
Trinity will return home Friday, March 30 for a match against University of Texas-Tyler at 10:00 a.m.
