Austin, Texas - The 16th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands of third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA).
The Tigers got down early in the match after doubles and weren't able to slow the Athenas momentum. Caroline Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan dropped the first match of the day at line two doubles with an 8-2 loss. Paulina Garcia and Ashley Debauge were the next pair to fall for the Tigers, and twins Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen finished off doubles play with an 8-3 loss at line one to give Claremont a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
The Athenas picked up the first two singles victories at line four and three to clinch the match. Kutach was the only Tiger to win a point with her thrilling 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 victory at line one, and she now stands at 7-2 this season.
Trinity will hit the road over spring break and head to California for a handful of matches against some top ranked Division III opponents. The Tigers will first take on Linfield College on March 12 at 9:00 a.m. PDT.
