San Antonio - The sixteenth-ranked Trinity women's tennis team earned a much needed win over #35 University of Redlands (CA) to start of the weekend.
The Tigers got off to a strong start in doubles and picked up a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Andrea De Leon and Francesca Canjar paired up to give Trinity their first point of the day with their 8-2 win at line three. Caroline Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan then finished their match at line two, and twin sisters Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen were able to pull off an 8-6 victory at line one to complete the double sweep by the Tigers.
Trinity was able to carry that momentum into singles play, and despite dropping the first singles point, the Tigers were able to pick up the following two to points to clinch the match.
Kutach was able to pick up Trinity's first singles point of the match at line one with a quick 6-1, 6-4 victory and now stands at 6-2 on the season in the top spot. Paulina Garcia was able to then clinch the match with her 7-6 (6), 6-1 win at line six. Canjar, Ashley Debauge, and Zoe Kaffen also all pulled out singles victories to finish off the match for the Tigers.
Trinity will travel to Austin, Texas, tomorrow to take on third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) in a neutral matchup scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
