San Antonio - The 16th-ranked Tiger women's tennis team was defeated 6-3 by Division II St. Edward's on Friday evening.
St. Edward's got off to a good start, as the Tigers found themselves down 2-1 after doubles play. Caroline Kutach and Andrea De Leon picked up a solid 8-6 victory at line three to put the Tigers on the board.
The Toppers continued their momentum into singles play, and they picked up wins at line three and then line two in singles. Kutach was able to pick up her fifth straight singles victory, as she defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at line one.
After St. Edward's won the next match in the fifth position to clinch, Ashley Debauge rallied to pick up the only other point of the match for the Tigers with her 3-6, 7-6 (5), 11-9 victory in the number four spot. Francesca Canjar was the last match left on the court and lost a close 7-5, 6-4 match to wrap up the day.
Trinity returns to action next Friday at 3 p.m. to host Division I Eastern Michigan University.
