Cleveland, Ohio - Trinity fell 6-3 to Case Western Reserve (OH) University in their first Division III matchup of the spring season.
The Tigers found themselves in a tough spot, as they were down 2-1 after doubles. Cheyenne Duncan and Meredith Jackson's 8-3 victory provided the team with its only win at line three doubles going into singles play.
Case Western continued their strong performance and picked up the first two victories in singles at lines two and three. Zoe Kaffen dropped a close first set in the #2 slot in a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker, but she dropped the second set in a lopsided 6-2 defeat.
Caroline Kutach gave the Tigers their first singles win at line one. After dropping the first set 6-4, she battled back in the second to win the 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker and finished strong with a 6-1 victory in the third set. Unfortunately, Kutach's win came too late, as the Spartan's had already clinched the match with their win at line five.
Ashley DeBauge followed her teammates lead, though, and picked up Trinity's second and final singles win at the four slot with her 6-4, 7-5 defeat over her Spartan opponent.
Trinity will take on Denison (OH) University at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow at the North Ridge Tennis Club in Ohio.
