Tyler, Texas - The top-seeded Trinity team of Marie Lutz and Andrea De Leon finished as runners-up in the Doubles Championships at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Southwest Region Championships on Sunday.
Lutz and De Leon came up just short to the second-seeded tandem of Southwestern (TX) University's Kate Daugherty and Esther Bowers in the "A" Doubles tournament. The Pirates team won 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-7, with a tiebreaker played instead of a third set.
It marked the fourth consecutive year Lutz competed in the ITA Regional final. The Tiger senior won the title in 2014 and 2015 with former player Liza Southwick. The Trinity duo advanced to last year's championship match in Abilene, Texas.
Top-seeded Caroline Kutach was eliminated in the "A" Singles semifinals by Sumvruta Iyengar of the University of Texas-Dallas in straight sets.
Cheyenne Duncan advanced to the "A" Singles consolation final, and fell to sixth-seeded Alexis Arrieta of the host UT-Tyler.
Trinity's dual-match season begins in February.
