Women's Tennis Continues Successful Run at ITA Regionals

Tyler, Texas - Tiger women's tennis players Marie Lutz and Andrea De Leon advanced to the Doubles Championship, while Caroline Kutach reached the Singles Semifinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Championships.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

Marie Lutz and Andrea De Leon defeated Nicole Wilson and Cecile Wilde of Southwestern (TX) University in the Doubles Semifinals at the University of Texas-Tyler. Earlier, the top seeds beat the sixth-seeded tandem of Anna Schneemann and Maranda Kahl of Southwestern in the quarterfinals.

Lutz is competing in her fourth straight ITA Regional Doubles final. The Tiger senior won the title in 2014 and 2015, and advanced to the championship match last year - all with recent graduate Liza Southwick.

Caroline Kutach advanced to the Singles Semifinals with a straight-sets quarterfinals win over eighth-seeded Anna Sergiovanni of Austin (TX) College.

Seventh-seeded Marie Lutz lost a third-set tiebreaker to #2 Kathy Joseph of the University of Texas-Dallas in the quarterfinals. Ashley DeBauge fell to another 9-16 seed, Sumvruta Iyengar of UT-Dallas in the quarters.

The third-seeded doubles tandem of Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen lost to #2 seeds Kate Daugherty and Esther Bowers of Southwestern in the semifinals.

 

UP NEXT

Sunday is the final day of competition, as the main-draw Singles and Doubles winners advance to the ITA Oracle Cup, to be held October 11-15 at Rome, Georgia.

Marie Lutz and Andrea De Leon play Kate Daugherty and Esther Bowers of Southwestern for the Doubles title, with the match not scheduled to begin before 2:30 p.m.

Caroline Kutach meets 9-16 seed Sumvruta Iyengar of UT-Dallas in the Singles semifinals at 9:00 a.m. The championship match will not begin before noon.
