Trinity’s Brickner Wins Qualifying Round at ITA Regional

Tyler, Texas - Trinity's Sara Brickner advanced to the "A" Singles Draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Championships Thursday.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

First-year Tiger player Sara Brickner won her singles qualifying round Thursday at the University of Texas-Tyler. Brickner beat a Schreiner (TX) player 2-6, 6-1, and 10-7 with a tiebreaker played instead of a third set.

Sophomore Hanna Rafferty lost 6-3, 1-6, 5-10 to a Southwestern (TX) University competitor.

 

TOURNAMENT NOTES

Caroline Kutach is the top seed in "A" Singles, while Marie Lutz is seeded #7. Both were semifinalists at last year's event held in Abilene, Texas,

Ashley DeBauge and Andrea De Leon are seeded in the 9-16 category.

Lutz and De Leon are the top-seeded team in "A" Doubles, while sisters Mary and Zoe Kaffen are third.

The main-draw singles and doubles winners advance to the ITA Oracle Cup, to be held October 8-11 at Rome, Georgia.

 

UP NEXT

Sara Brickner advanced to the "A" Singles Draw, and Hanna Rafferty will play in "B" Singles starting Friday. The first 64-player "A" Singles round starts at 8:00 a.m. Friday, and the second is slated for 11:45 a.m.

Two rounds of the 32-draw "A" Doubles are set for Friday, starting at 4:00 p.m. The second round will begin at 6:00 p.m.
