Women's Tennis Captures Sixth Consecutive SCAC Championship

San Antonio - The Trinity women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-0 victory over Southwestern (TX) University on Sunday.


The 16th-ranked Tigers secured the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with the victory over #28 Southwestern.

The Tiger doubles teams set the tone for the match by winning all three matchups. Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz won #1 doubles, Caroline Kutach and Zoe Kaffen took the second line, and Andrea De Leon and Mary Kaffen were victorious in the #3 match.

Kutach handily won #2 singles, and Lutz clinched the dual match by winning the third line.



The Tigers have won seven straight matches, and stand at 17-7. The Pirates finished their season with a 20-3 mark.

Sunday's win marked the third consecutive SCAC crown for third-year Head Coach Gretchen Rush.

Trinity now has 21 SCAC Women's Tennis Championships to its credit.

Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz, along with Caroline Kutach and Zoe Kaffen, are sporting 6-0 records as doubles teams. Andrea De Leon and Mary Kaffen are 5-0 as a tandem.



Official bids to the NCAA Championship will be issued May 8, with Regionals to be held May 12-14. The Regional site will be determined by the NCAA.
