#20 Women's Tennis Defeats Kenyon and RPI on Sunday


Orlando, Florida - The 20th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team opened its Florida trip Sunday with victories over #30 Kenyon (OH) College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY).



The Tigers started the day with a 6-3 victory over Kenyon at the massive USTA National Campus.

Trinity took a 2-1 lead after Marie Lutz and Mary Kaffen (#1 doubles) and Caroline Kutach and Andrea De Leon (#3 doubles) scored doubles wins.

De Leon quickly gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead with her line six win to start singles play, then twins Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen followed with wins at #5 and #4, respectively, to clinch the team victory.

After clinching, Liza Southwick won a three-set match at line one singles, while Kutach fell just short in an 11-9 third-set tiebreaker at #2 singles.  Lutz also came up short on the third line.

Trinity finished off the afternoon with a 9-0 shutout of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

There were some changes in the doubles lineup, as Lutz and Zoe Kaffen were paired at #1 doubles. Southwick and Mary Kaffen were the #2 doubles team, while Kutach and De Leon remained at the third line.

All of the singles matches resulted in straight-sets victories. Kutach, Lutz, and Zoe Kaffen played Nos. 1-3 singles. Mary Kaffen, De Leon, and Ashley DeBauge were the Nos. 4-6 Tiger players.



Trinity has won three straight matches, and stands at 7-5 overall. The Tigers have a 7-2 mark against NCAA Division III opponents.

Andrea De Leon has posted a 9-2 singles record, while De Leon and Caroline Kutach are 5-0 as a doubles team.



Trinity takes on 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve (OH) University at 10:00 a.m. EDT Monday, in Winter Park, Florida.
