Tiger Women's Soccer Welcomes Nine New Recruits for 2018

Tiger Women's Soccer Welcomes Nine New Recruits for 2018

San Antonio - Trinity Head Coach Dylan Harrison has announced nine new players that will join the Tiger women's soccer team for the 2018-19 school year.

The 2017 season ended with Trinity sporting a 19-2 overall record. The Tigers won their SCAC Championship match for the ninth straight season and advanced to the programs 23rd overall NCAA Playoffs appearance.

Tara Lujan

Vandegrift HS/ Lonestar SC ECNL
Austin, TX

Intended Major: Psychology
Why I Chose Trinity: I chose Trinity because it provides a rigorous liberal arts education, and I get the opportunity to play in a high-achieving soccer program. What stood out the most when I first visited Trinity was the uplifting atmosphere initiated from the staff and students. Instantly, I could see myself going to school here and being around these people.

Coach Harrison: "From the very first time we saw Tara play, we knew she was "different" in the best sense of the word. Tara is a goalkeeper who is active well beyond stopping shots. She is great with her feet and comfortable playing off her goal line. Tara will give us the ability to play a higher defensive line while ensuring that she is back there to clean up any balls in behind our defense.  Adding Tara as a goalkeeper will not only make us stronger defensively but also strengthen our the attack!"

High School Honors:
3-year varsity player
Academic All-District: 2015, 2016, 2017
State Finalist: 2015
State Semi-Finalist: 2017

CeCe Hendricks

St. Joseph Catholic High School/ Carolina Elite Soccer Academy ECNL
Travelers Rest, South Carolina

Intended Major: Political Science/ Pre-Law
Why I Chose Trinity: Trinity was the perfect mix of a great city atmosphere, a rigorous academic institution, and I was still able to continue playing the sport that I love!

Coach Harrison: "It is rare that we have a chance to recruit South Carolina, so we were very fortunate that Cece reached out to us. Signing a player of her caliber to our fall line up is a real success. The great part about Cece is she has been exposed to various playing styles during her family's many stops in the East. Cece has the desire to get the ball down and play quickly. Cece is a very technical center mid that will allow us some flexibility to play returners in new roles. We know she will fit our system of play while bringing a knowledge of how to handle other styles as well."

High School Honors:
2 time All-State & All-Region
Region 2 Player of the Year
2 time Upper State Champions
South Carolina First Team
Lead team in goals

Nina Zapalac

Clear Falls High School/ Houston Dash
League City, Texas

Intended Major: Biology
Why I Chose Trinity: As soon as I stepped onto campus, I knew Trinity was right for me. I chose Trinity because of its rigorous academic atmosphere, competitive soccer program and the warm and caring attitude of those I met. I wanted a school where I could thrive both academically and athletically, so Trinity is a perfect fit.

Coach Harrison: "Nina was our first commit of the 2017 class. How great it is to sign an athlete who knows without a doubt that Trinity University is the place she wants to be! Nina is a crafty winger who can take players on and create for others. Nina and her family know what it takes and the sacrifices needed to be successful at the collegiate level thanks to her sister Kira who was a four year soccer player at Texas State. We are excited to see Nina carve her own path as she creates a name for herself in the Trinity uniform."

High School Honors:
4 Year Varsity Letterman
2nd Team All-District 2016
1st Team All-District 2017
Lady Knights Offensive Player of the Year 2017

Madison Horner

James Bowie High School/ Lonestar SC ECNL
Austin, Texas

Intended Major: Biology (Pre-med)
Why I Chose Trinity: The atmosphere is unlike any other campus I have visited. Between the close connection the students and faculty share to the number of opportunities to get involved, I found Trinity to be the perfect fit for my college experience.

Coach Harrison: "When Madison committed to play soccer at Trinity, we were excited about what she would bring to the team, but we didn't realize to what extent. The past few months on the recruiting trail were littered with the comment from coaches and players saying "Oh, Trinity! You guys landed Madison Horner! She is a great player!" It is exciting to know that we have such a well respected student-athlete joining our team. We believe Madison will find a way to compete early on to earn a spot on the field. Her defensive toughness paired with her technical ability will allow her to compete for a number of positions. The real question will be, where can she contribute the most."

High School Honors:
3 Year Letterman
1st Team All District 2016-17
2nd Team All-District 2015-16
Midfield MVP 2015-17

Alex Walsh

Booker T Washington High School/ TSC Hurricanes ECNL
Tulsa, Oklahoma

Intended Major: International Business
Why I Chose Trinity: Trinity has the perfect mix of academics and soccer. It also has a beautiful campus with great weather.

Coach Harrison: "Only having seen Alex on video prior to her first visit to campus, we knew she had to be a good player solely based on the way she carried herself. Her fast talking and energetic personality carries over to how she plays the game. Alex puts her stamp on any game she plays in by finding a way to make an impact. Even if she has to kick, claw or simply out work her opponent, she gets the job done. Upon first meeting her, you might not expect it, but Alex brings a toughness we actively sought to recruit this year. There is no doubt that you will be hearing from Alex this year!"

High School Honors:
4 Year Starter
All-Tulsa World Honorable Mention 2016& 2017
All-District 2015, 2016, 2017

Camryn Beall

Colorado Academy/ Colorado Rush SC
Morrison, Colorado

Intended Major: Business
Why I Chose Trinity: I chose to attend Trinity University next fall because as soon as I had the opportunity to step on campus, everything felt perfect. As I toured around, I felt more and more at home, especially coming from a small school in Colorado, the intimate class sizes and teacher relationships were super important to me and awesome to see at Trinity. After only a few hours on campus, I immediately knew Trinity was a place where I could grow as a person through amazing academics and have the ability to continue my love for soccer.

Coach Harrison: "When a player makes the trip from Colorado to come to one of our ID camps, immediately we know they are serious about Trinity. Camryn really grabbed our attention at the very start of camp when she went up hard for a challenge against another top recruit. Right then and there, we knew she was a quality player. Camryn is a player who does all the small things right, which allows her teammates to focus on their own strengths. Her work ethic and willingness to do the dirty work makes those players around her better. This is such an asset to our program. An added bonus of adding Camryn to our roster is that it ensures we will have some fans when we travel to Colorado to play. We can't wait to show off the player Camryn will become wearing the Tiger jersey."

High School Honors:
4 Year Varsity Starter
USA Today High School Player of the Week
2015 State Champion
2016 State Runner-up
All-State Award
Coaches Award 2017

Eliana Marshall

Atascocita High School/ Rise SC
Humble, TX

Intended Major/Career: Biology/ Physical Therapist/ Sports Medicine
Why I Chose Trinity: Trinity is a special place where I can get a unique, individualized education and play on a nationally ranked soccer team.

Coach Harrison: "We feel as though we stole Eliana from a lot of schools who were in need of a strong center back that reads the game really well. Due to a knee injury,  Eliana went unnoticed during a key recruiting period. Eliana's knee injury had a silver lining, however. It helped her realize that she didn't want to sacrifice her academics just to play soccer. The result - we believe we are getting the best version of Eliana in terms of returning stronger than before with her priorities in place. That being said, don't be fooled because when Eliana steps on the field, it will be with every intention of doing whatever it takes to win. Eliana will help us do exactly that, we will win a lot of games during Eliana's career."

High School Honors:
All-State Defensive Honorable Mention
First Team All-District
First Team Academic All-District
Team Defensive MVP

Kaity Ward

Xavier College Preparatory School/ Scottsdale Blackhawks
Phoenix, Arizona

Intended Major: Biology
Why I Chose Trinity: I am very excited to be going to Trinity University because of its academic programs, in specific science and biology. I am very interested in pursuing a career in health care. Also, the Trinity soccer program is very impressive and competitive, and I am excited to play for the Tigers. The school history and campus life is aligned with my personal and academic vision.

Coach Harrison: "When one of our most respected current players speaks so highly of a recruit, we listen for good reason. Kaity has a family connection with Emily Welp, since both are from Scottsdale, Arizona. Emily was not exaggerating when she said Kaity came from a great family and can play the game the Trinity way. Kaity is a mix between an outside back that gets forward and an attacking player that gets back to defend. Kaity is a box to box player that will put a lot of pressure on teams. Her club is producing high performing soccer players, and we are fortunate that she believes Trinity Women's Soccer is the right fit to help her achieve her academic and athletic goals."

High School/ Club Honors:
Varisity Soccer Letter
AIA Scholar Athlete Award
2017 National League Red Division Champions
Arizona State Cup Champions 2016 & 2017
National League Captain
Region IV Quarter Finalist 2016/2017

Lindsay Schmitt

Stanton College Prep School/ Jacksonville Armada WFC ECNL
Jacksonville, Florida

Intended Major: Biology (Pre-Med)
Why I Chose Trinity: Rigorous academics, outstanding faculty, and student diversity are all obvious reasons to attend Trinity. Equally important for me was the way I felt the first time I stepped onto Trinity's campus. The immediate vibe I sensed was warm and welcoming. Everyone I came in contact with seemed genuinely happy to be there. I knew Trinity had an impressive soccer program,, and after I met the soccer coaches and team members, I knew that I had found the best college for me.

Coach Dylan: "Lindsay also comes from a state that is not directly in our recruiting circuit. All you have to do is look at the Florida clubs results from last years ECNL playoffs to know what a great soccer state Florida is. Strong, fast, technical, and excellent work ethic. These were the words her coaches used to describe her. Perfect! Those are the words we use to describe our team! (ok at least we will be strong with our new weight facility and new strength coach in place.) Lindsay's playing attributes will allow her to come in and compete for a number of positions increasing her chances to see the field early on. Who knows we could end up with a Lindsay and Lindsey center back pairing."
