#13 Women's Soccer Falls to Hardin-Simmons in NCAA 2nd Round

Abilene, Texas - The 13th-ranked Trinity women's soccer team lost 3-0 to sixth-ranked host Hardin-Simmons (TX) University in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.

Hardin-Simmons controlled the action for much of the first half, out-shooting Trinity 10-0 over the first 45 minutes of the game. The Cowgirls got the eventual game-winner in the 19th minute on a free kick.

The second goal of the afternoon came just 68 seconds after halftime, followed 11 minutes later by an insurance goal that made it a 3-0 lead for Hardin-Simmons.

The only on-target shot of the game for the Tigers came in the 87th minute from Abby Blackwood, but the Cowgirls were able to keep the shutout.

Trinity actually had a 7-3 edge in shots in the second half, but Hardin-Simmons scored on two of its three attempts to finish off the victory.

Trinity completed its season with a 17-2-1 record, and had its 16-game win streak snapped. Included in the streak was a 1-0 decision over Occidental (CA) College in Saturday's NCAA opening round.

Hardin-Simmons improved to 18-1-1 and advanced to the Round of 16.

The only two losses this season for the Tigers came at the hands of Hardin-Simmons, including a home matchup during the regular season in early September.

Trinity competed in its 10th straight NCAA Tournament and the 24th overall.
