San Antonio - Five members of the 13th-ranked Trinity women's soccer team have been elected to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team.
Senior forward Chelsea Cole was selected as the Offensive Most Valuable Player, while sophomore defender Lindsey Peng was tabbed as the Defensive MVP. Cole and Peng also made the All-Tournament Team, as did senior forward Halleanne Dure, senior midfielder Katie Peth, and sophomore midfielder Abby Blackwood.
The Tigers hosted the SCAC Tournament last weekend and won their 10th straight conference title. Trinity claimed a 1-0 decision over Southwestern (TX) University in the final, and shutout Schreiner (TX) University 5-0 in the semifinals. The Tigers taut defense held their opponents to just six total shots over the weekend.
Cole scored three goals during the tournament, including the only scoring play of the championship matchup with Southwestern. Peng sent a corner kick to her teammate in the 25th minute of action. Cole also scored two goals against Schreiner.
Blackwood produced the final two goals in the Schreiner game, and Dure accounted for the second goal of the day.
Earlier, Cole was elected the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight occasion, as well as earning a slot on the all-conference First Team. Dure, Peth, and Peng also made the All-SCAC First Team.
Third-year Head Coach Dylan Harrison was previously named the SCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for the second straight time. Coach Harrison has guided the Tigers to a 16-1-1 record this season.
Up next will be a trip to Abilene, Texas, and the NCAA Division III Championship opening rounds at Hardin-Simmons (TX) University. The Tigers meet Occidental (CA) College in the first round at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The winner meets the winner of the Hardin-Simmon versus University of Puget Sound (WA) in the second round at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
