San Antonio - The 16th-ranked Trinity women's soccer team kicks off the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Saturday at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.
Trinity (16-1-1) takes on Occidental (CA) College (10-2-5) in the first round at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Seventh-ranked Hardin-Simmons (16-1-1) meets the University of Puget Sound (WA) (13-5-2) in the opening game at 1:00 p.m. The winners advance to Sunday's second round-game at 3:00 p.m.
The NCAA Sectionals are set for November 16-18 at sites to be determined. The Semifinals and Final will be held November 30-December 1 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Led by third-year Head Coach Dylan Harrison, the Tigers are competing in their 10th straight NCAA Tournament and the 24th overall. Recent highlights include an NCAA runner-up finish in 2013 in a tournament played at Toyota Field in San Antonio. The Tigers last advanced to the Quarterfinals in a 2016 home game.
The 2017 NCAA Championship also sent Trinity to Abilene, where the Tigers shutout the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) 2-0 in the first round. Host Hardin-Simmons rallied for a 3-2 comeback second-round win over Trinity.
Last Sunday, the Tigers captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 1-0 decision over Southwestern (TX) University at Trinity's field. It marked the 10th straight conference crown for Trinity and the 23rd overall.
