Aurora, Colorado - The 17th-ranked Trinity women's soccer team concluded the regular-season campaign with a 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference shutout of Johnson & Wales (CO) University Sunday afternoon.
The score remained 1-0 throughout the remainder of the first half, but the Tigers outshot their opponent 9-0 in the first half, including three on target which were thwarted by the Wildcats.
Johnson & Wales saved three Trinity shots in the second half until the 67th minute, when Kaity Ward dribbled the ball under the Wildcats keeper. Three more Tiger shots were stopped at the goal by the host team.
Trinity produced 23 total shots and did not permit Johnson & Wales to execute one.
The Tigers are the SCAC regular-season champions, sporting a 14-1-1 overall mark and a 13-0-0 conference record. The win on Sunday marked Trinity's 13th consecutive victory and the 14th clean-sheet game of the season.
Trinity won last year's SCAC Tournament and will defend its title at home next Friday through Sunday. The conference tournament was moved to Trinity from Austin (TX) College in Sherman, Texas, because of field conditions.
Johnson & Wales dropped to 6-8-1 and 5-7-1 in conference play. Trinity shut out Johnson & Wales 9-0 in September in San Antonio.
Camryn Beall's goal in 58 seconds is the second-fastest of Trinity's opening scoring plays this season. Halleanne Dure scored in 25 seconds in September against Texas Lutheran University. Beall, a first-year player, scored the second goal of her early collegiate career and the first game-winner.
Kaity Ward chalked up her fifth goal of the campaign.
Chelsea Cole leads the Tigers with nine assists in her column.
The Tigers will be the top-seed in the tournament and will take on the winner of the Centenary (LA) College vs Schreiner (TX) University match at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Paul McGinlay Field.
