Irving, Texas - The 21st-ranked Trinity women's soccer team claimed its seventh straight victory with a 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over the University of Dallas (TX) Sunday afternoon.
In spite of leading the Crusaders 12-3 in total shots, Peth's goal would prove to be the only scoring play of the first half. Trinity took three more shots, which were saved by the Dallas goalkeeper and one which hit the crossbar.
Five minutes into the second half Kristen Canepa scored on a free kick, which gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
In the 57th minute Chelsea Cole deflected the ball off the goalkeeper as Trinity took a commanding 3-0 lead.
Trinity's taut defense was in action in the second half as Dallas did not take one shot. The Tigers produced 15 shots in the second stanza.
The Tigers posted their seventh consecutive shutout victory and improved to an overall record of 8-1-1. Trinity stands undefeated in the SCAC with a 7-0-0 mark.
Dallas dropped to 2-5-1 and 1-3-0 SCAC.
Katie Peth scored her third goal of the season and the first game-winner.
Chelsea Cole now has a team-leading 11 goals in her column and 42 in her career. Cole stands in eighth place in Trinity's career record books and needs five goals to tie Lindsay Rowland (2001-2003) for seventh place.
First-year Kaity Ward has recorded seven assists, which is good for the team's lead.
Trinity made 14 shots on goal and did not permit Dallas a shot on the mark.
The Tigers and Crusaders will meet again October 14 on Trinity's field.
Trinity heads to Georgetown, Texas, Tuesday for an SCAC matchup with Southwestern (TX) University at 7:00 p.m.
