Tiger Women's Soccer Opens SCAC Play With Road Shutout

Seguin, Texas - The defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) champion Trinity women's soccer team opened league play with a 6-0 shutout of Texas Lutheran University Wednesday night.

If you blinked at the start of the game you might have missed the first goal, as Halleanne Dure scored just 25 seconds into the matchup on an assist from Kaity Ward.

Dure wasn't done by a long shot after her eventual game-winner, scoring twice more to lead the Tiger offensive attack. Ward was also not done helping her teammate as she provided assists on all three of Dure's scores.

Trinity led 4-0 at the half, with Dure scoring the second goal of the night in the 33rd minute. Just over five minutes later, Hannah Lane got on the board on an assist from Abby Blackwood that made it 3-0 Tigers, then Kristen Canepa nailed a free-kick goal from 25 yards out to account for the halftime advantage.

Dure and Ward hooked up for the final time in the 61st minute, though this time it was Dure knocking in a rebound goal to follow Ward's initial shot that was saved.

Lindsey Peng lined up a corner kick in the 81st minute that led to Trinity's final score of the night, which was netted by Nina Zapalac.

The Tigers improved their season record to 2-1-0, and are 1-0-0 in SCAC competition. Texas Lutheran dropped to 1-2-1 and 0-2-0 SCAC.

Halleanne Dure posted the second hat trick of her career. Her last three-goal game occurred in September 2017 against Texas Lutheran. The trio of goals marked the first scoring plays for Dure this season. Dure now has 26 career goals in her column.

Newcomer Kaity Ward contributed the first assists of her early collegiate career.

Hannah Lane, Kristen Canepa, and Nina Zapalac each scored an initial goal of their careers.

Goalkeepers Paige Wallace and Tara Lujan shared duties guarding the net, as each player recorded one save in the clean-sheet game.

Trinity outshot Texas Lutheran 30-3.

The Tigers open a home weekend of SCAC action on Friday by hosting Austin (TX) College at 8:00 p.m.
