San Antonio - Trinity's 12th-ranked women's soccer team finished the first game of the 2018 season in a scoreless draw against Pacific Lutheran (WA) University on Friday.
Both teams produced shots on goal in the opening minutes, but neither was able to find the net despite 120 minutes of action tonight.
The game reached overtime after both teams finished with nine shots in regulation. Neither was able to get off a shot in the first overtime, but in the second overtime, Trinity missed a golden chance to steal the win.
After senior Chelsea Cole's shot was blocked, first-year Alex Walsh made a nice attempt, but the potential game-winner hit the post. Pacific Lutheran put a header on target in the second overtime as well, but Paige Wallace recorded the save to preserve the clean sheet.
Both teams opened up the season with tonight's double-overtime tie, and it is the first draw for the Tigers since its NCAA Playoff game in 2015 that ended with Trinity advancing on penalty kicks.
Trinity held an overall 13-10 edge in shots taken, including a 4-1 advantage in the second overtime. The Lutes had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Paige Wallace ensured her second career shutout with three saves over 120 minutes of action.
The Tigers will host the University of Puget Sound (WA) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
