Sherman, Texas - The third-ranked Tiger women’s soccer team scored two second-half goals to shut out Austin College 2-0 in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday afternoon.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, upped its record to 5-0-1 and 1-0-0 SCAC, while Austin College dropped to 4-3-0 and 0-1-0. The Tigers and Kangaroos will play again October 24 in San Antonio.
The scoreboard did not light up until the 78th minute of play when Tiger newcomers Colleen Markey and Jordan Bethea combined for the eventual game-winner. First-year Julia Camp added a goal four minutes later, on assists from Emily Jorgens and Amanda Boe. Jorgens now leads the Tigers with four assists this season.
Lauren Goldberg and Kalli Douma shared goalkeeper duties for Trinity, which did not permit a shot from Austin College.
The Tigers continue their North Texas SCAC road trip Sunday, taking on the University of Dallas at 2:00 p.m. in Irving.
