Irving, Texas - First-year forward Stephanie Segovia scored an unassisted goal four minutes into the overtime period, as the third-ranked Trinity Tigers women edged the University of Dallas Crusaders 1-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, wrapped up its regular-season campaign with undefeated records of 18-0-0, and 8-0-0 in the SCAC. This marks the second straight year the Tigers completed the regular season with an unbeaten SCAC record. Dallas dropped to 11-7-2 and 2-5-1 SCAC.
Segovia (Buda, Texas/Hays) leads the Tigers with 22 goals (two game-winners) and five assists, for 47 total points. Her 22 goals this season are tied for the second-most in school history (Becky King, 2000) for a single season.
First-year goalkeeper Devan Osegueda (San Diego, Calif./The Bishop's School) registered a key save in the second half of play, on a shot which came from 45 yards out. The win marked Trinity's 15th shutout of the season.
The Tigers outshot the Crusaders 27-2, and led 12-1 in shots on the mark. Seven of the total shots, and five on goal, came from Segovia.
Trinity will compete Nov. 4-5 at the SCAC Tournament at Birmingham, Ala. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
