Houston, Texas - The Trinity women's golf team stands in 16th place at the DIII National Preview after Monday's opening round at Bay Oaks Country Club.
The Tigers shot a first-round 349 on the par-72 Bay Oaks course. Trinity is just two strokes behind host University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX), Wittenberg (OH) University, and Whitman (WA) College which are tied for 13th place in the 18-team event.
Trinity leads Centre (KY) College by 13 strokes and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Southwestern (TX) University by 32.
Emilee Strausburg leads the Tiger players at 9-over-par 81, and is tied for 32nd place. Strausburg fired in two birdies during her opening round.
Elizabeth McGillivray is in a tie for 52nd place and Raquel Hill is tied for the #80 slot. Jordyn Jasperson stands tied for 85th, and Delaney Kelley and Sarah Buss are in a tie for the 96th position, as Buss is playing as an individual.
Trinity is competing in an event which features some of the top DIII women's golf teams in the nation. Included in the field are defending NCAA Division III champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges and six other teams who participated in last year's NCAA Championship.
Rhodes (TN) College leads the pack at 305, and Grinnell (IA) is one stroke back.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
