San Antonio - The defending champion Trinity women's golf team leads its Alamo Classic after Monday's opening round at The Quarry Golf Club.
Trinity shot a first-round 314 at the par-71 course and leads second-place Southwestern (TX) University by 23 strokes. Seven teams are competing in the two-day event.
Emilee Strausburg sits atop the individual standings, after shooting a 5-over-par 76. She also leads all players in par-4 scoring, and is tied for second in the tournament with 10 pars after the first round. Strausburg's two birdies are tied for the second-most in the field.
Overall, the Tigers have four golfers in the top 10, as well as seven players in the top 25 after the first round. Trinity leads the tournament with 43 total pars, and also leads the field in scoring for both par-4 and par-5 holes.
Shelby DeVore is tied for second place with a 6-over 77, while Taylor Moser is just three strokes off the lead in fourth place. DeVore is also tied for second with 10 pars over the first 18 holes, while Moser is tied for the tournament lead with three birdies.
Elizabeth McGillivray is in a tie for seventh, while Delaney Kelley and individual golfer Brighton Chen are tied for the #18 position. Georgina Hawley and Rebecca Derby are tied for the respective 21st and 28th slots, and both players are also competing as individuals at the tournament.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. starting time.
