San Antonio - Trinity junior Abby Holland has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Holland helped sparked the Tigers to a pair of SCAC home victories last week. Trinity first bested Schreiner (TX) University and then clinched the SCAC regular-season title with a decision over the University of Dallas (TX).
The Tiger forward made Trinity history in the matchup with Schreiner. Holland scored a school-record 43 points, on 21-26 shooting in just 29 minutes of court time. She also pulled in three rebounds and two steals. Holland also broke the Trinity and SCAC records for field goals in a game, and her 43-points performance is the fourth-best in conference history.
In the regular-season finale with Dallas, Holland scored 19 points, connecting on 8-15 of her shots in just 22 minutes of action. All told, Holland scored 62 points in the two games and shot 29-41 from the field. She also had eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Holland is averaging 17.4 points per game this season and is shooting 51.6% from the field. She also averages 5.9 rebounds per game and has chalked up 66 steals and 46 assists. Holland is a member of Trinity "1,000-points club" with 1,101 career points to her credit.
Trinity will be the top-seeded team in this weekend's SCAC Tournament at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas. The recipients of a first-round bye, the Tigers open the event in Saturday's semifinals at noon. Trinity's opponent will be the winner of the game between fourth-seeded Southwestern (TX) University and #5 Colorado College. The championship game will be played at noon Sunday with the winner guaranteed a slot in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
