San Antonio - The 22nd-ranked and defending champion Trinity women's basketball team will be the top-seeded squad at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament February 23-25 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Trinity (21-3, 13-1 SCAC) clinched a share of the SCAC regular-season title Saturday night with a 70-49 home victory over Schreiner (TX) University. Austin (TX) College had a similar conference mark as the Tigers, and the top-seeded position was decided by a coin toss.
The Tigers received a first-round bye and will open with the semifinals at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time Saturday, February 24, against the winner of fourth-seeded host Colorado College and #5 Centenary (LA) College. Second-seeded Austin College plays the winner of #3 Southwestern (TX) University and #6 Schreiner University in the semifinals.
The championship game is slated for Sunday, February 25, at 2:00 p.m. MST. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
Trinity, led by sixth-year Head Coach Cameron Hill, won back-to-back conference titles by defeating Texas Lutheran University in last year's final at Georgetown, Texas. The feat marked the first consecutive SCAC championship in Trinity women's basketball history, and the third conference crown during Coach Hill's tenure. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA round of 16 for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign.
