Trinity Women’s Basketball Ranked Seventh in Preseason Poll

San Antonio - The Trinity women's basketball team has been ranked seventh by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Preseason Poll.

Led by sixth-year Head Coach Cameron Hill, the Tigers return ten players from the successful 2016-17 campaign. Trinity completed the season with a 28-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Division III round of 16. It marked the third appearance of the Tigers in the NCAA Postseason under Coach Hill's leadership, and the 28 victories tied a Trinity single-season record. The WBCA ranked the Tigers eighth in their final poll of last season. 

The Tigers also won a third Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in the five years Coach Hill has been at the helm. For his efforts, Coach Hill was tabbed as the SCAC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. He also was elected the South Region Coach of the Year, and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Small College Coach of the Year.

Senior guard Micah Weaver was tabbed for the All-South Region Second Team and was named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year. Weaver in her first campaign as a Tiger player. Weaver scored 473 points during the year, placing her eighth on Trinity's all-time single-season scoring list.

Sophomore forward Abby Holland was chosen for the All-SCAC Third Team, while senior forward Mollie Hughes made the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team. Also returning to bolster the lineup are senior guard Rebecca Gordon, senior forward/center Kate Irvin, junior guards Alex Duncan and Rachel Chavez, junior forward Kelsi Ballard, sophomore forward Jillian Cready, and sophomore guard Victoria Trabysh.

Joe Shotland enters his fourth season as the Tigers assistant coach. Senior guard/forward Allison Staley, named to the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team, will serve as a student assistant coach.

Trinity opens its season November 17-18 at the Bruin Classic in Newberg, Oregon. First up is a pairing with Willamette (OR) University November 17, followed by a game November 18 with host George Fox University.

The Tigers will host the Trinity Thanksgiving Tournament November 25-26, taking on Hardin-Simmons (TX) University and the University of Texas-Tyler, respectively.
