San Antonio - The Trinity men's and women's track & field teams turned in stellar performances at the first home meet of the season held on Saturday.
In the women's events, a definite standout was Abigail Schneebeck who posted a personal-best 15:40 seconds to win the 100 meter hurdles.
The 4x100 meter relay team won their event with an excellent mark of 48.91 seconds. The quartet consisted of Elizabeth Peters, Nkolika Nweke, Katie Groke, and Britney Sullivan. Nweke went on to place third in the 100-mete was a third-place finisher in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200. In the triple jump, Sullivan and Ayriel Coleman finished in second and third place, respectively.
Molly McCullough won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:28.90, the fourth fastest time in Trinity history. Melissa Whitman finished just ahead of McCullough in the 5,000 meters, while teammates Samantha Simank, Amanda Gerlach and Allison Hill rounded out the top five.
On the men's side, Elliott Blake's 4:02.47 time in the 1,500 meter not only locked in first place at the meet, but the personal-best for Blake moved him to the top ten in school history. Michael Erickson finish second just behind his teammate. Cody Hall came in a close second in the 100-meter hurdles, and Matt Love finished third in the discus.
Benjamin Matthews placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase by a narrow .56 seconds. Fellow distance runners, Austin Brown and Brian Wongchotigul finished second and third in the men's 5,000 meter run.
The Tigers head to Cuero, Texas next Saturday for the Cuero Gobbler Invitational.
