Five Tigers Set to Compete at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

San Antonio - Five Trinity student-athletes will compete in the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday through Saturday at Greensboro, North Carolina.

Sophomore men's divers Daniel Valmassei and Anthony Liva will represent the Tigers on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, as will first-year Maren Merwarth in the women's diving events. Sophomores Beau Tipton and Mabel Fowler are Trinity's respective men's and women's representatives in the swimming competition.

Valmassei and Liva will make their second consecutive appearance at the NCAA meet. Last year, Valmassei earned Honorable Mention All-America honors on the 1-meter board with a 10th-place finish. The two Tigers start their dives Thursday on the low board and finish Saturday on the high board.

Merwarth opens with 3-meter diving Wednesday and completes her trip to the Greensboro Aquatic Center Friday on the low board.

Fowler is entered in three swimming events, beginning with the 500-yard freestyle on Wednesday. She is set for the 200-yard freestyle Thursday, and is the eighth seed in Saturday's 200-yard backstroke.

Tipton is scheduled to swim in two events Thursday, the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle. He is seeded 12th in Friday's 200-yard butterfly event.

The preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m. EDT each day, and the finals are set for 6:00 p.m.
