Three Trinity Divers Unofficially Qualify for NCAAs

Grinnell, Iowa - Trinity's divers turned in strong performances Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Division III Region 2 Men's and Women's Diving Championships at Grinnell College.



Daniel Valmassei placed third on the men's 3-meter board with a score of 464.40, while teammate Anthony Liva finished fourth at 450.25.

Maren Merwarth was a third-place finisher in the women's 1-meter event with a mark of 388.55, and Katarina Partalas placed sixth at 368.75.

As a result of their finishes, Valmassei, Liva, and Merwarth unofficially qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships to be held March 20-23 at Greensboro, North Carolina. Duncan MacAskill was designated as a men's alternate for nationals with his fourth-place low-board finish on Friday.

Valmassei was runner-up in Friday's 1-meter men's competition. Liva came in at #6, while Merwarth placed fourth on the women's high board.



On Monday, the NCAA will announce the official diving bids to nationals. Swimmers Beau Tipton and Mabel Fowler earlier received invitations to the respective men's and women's national championships.
