Trinity Swimming & Diving Teams Receive Academic Honors

San Antonio - Trinity's men's and women's swimming & diving teams have received academic honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Each squad has been designated as a Division III Scholar All-America Team for the fall 2018 semester. To qualify for the accolade, teams must have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Tiger women's team registered a cumulative GPA of 3.31, while the men amassed a 3.02 mark.

Last December, the CSCAA ranked both teams in the DIII top-25. Trinity's women's team was ranked 22nd, while the Tiger men held a #23 ranking.

A number of individual swimmers and divers have posted excellent times and scores this season. Mabel Fowler has the fifth-fastest time in the women's 200-yard backstroke. She is ranked 11th in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events and 32nd in the 50-yard backstroke.

Star Rosales is ranked 34th in the 50-yard butterfly, and Paige Johnson is 34th in the 100-yard butterfly. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Fowler, Rosales, Johnson, and Morgen Reyna holds a #7 national ranking. The 400-yard medley relay quartet of Fowler, Reyna, Rosales and Jadyn Trahan is ranked 21st in the nation. Joining Fowler, Rosales, and Reyna on the 200-yard freestyle relay was Libby Goode, as the team is ranked #28. The 200-yard medley relay unit of Fowler, Trahan, Reyna, and Rosales is 32nd in the rankings.

Women's divers Katarina Partalas and Maren Merwarth have qualified for the NCAA Division III Region 2 Diving Championships, to be held March 1-2 at Grinnell, Iowa.

Beau Tipton holds a #13 ranking in the men's 200-yard butterfly. Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman is ranked 25th in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He is also ranked 35th in the 1,000-yard freestyle and #39 in the 500-yard freestyle. Daniel Sarman is currently ranked 29th in the 200-yard freestyle.

In relay races, the 400-yard freestyle team of Sarman, Leon Faulk, Eamon Morris, and Shamzi Alkaff is ranked 24th by the CSCAA. Faulk, Alkaff, Michael Rezsofi, and Charles Yuen are ranked 29th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The 400-yard medley relay squad of Sarman, Alkaff, Connor McClure, and Elliot Fleming is ranked 37th nationally.

Men's divers Daniel Valmassei, Anthony Liva, and Duncan MacAskill have qualified for the NCAA Region 2 Championships in March at Grinnell.

Trinity's head swimming coach is Scott Trompeter, and Stan Randall leads the diving program. The Tiger swimmers and divers head to Birmingham, Alabama, Saturday to take on Birmingham-Southern (AL) College and Sewanee: University of the South (TN).
