Trinity Divers Finish Meet With SUNY-Fredonia

San Antonio - Trinity's Maren Merwarth won the women's 3-meter diving competition Saturday with the State University of New York-Fredonia at Hixon Natatorium.



Merwarth posted a six-dive score of 207.65 on the high board. Bella Peters was runner-up with a mark of 153.35.

Daniel Valmassei finished second in the men's six-dives event with a score of 237.45, just 12.5 points behind the winner from SUNY-Fredonia.

Anthony Liva placed third at 194.7, and Tommy Ritthaler was fourth with a score of 169.60.

No NCAA qualifying scores by Trinity divers were registered in Saturday's competition, but Valmassei and Liva earlier qualified for the NCAA Division III Region 2 Diving Championships in Grinnell, Iowa, set for March 1-2. Duncan MacAskill picked up his two required qualifying spots in Friday's 1-meter event, as did Merwarth.

Peters and Ritthaler each have one qualifying position and must gain one more to to eligible for the Region Championships.



Trinity's swimmers and divers head to Birmingham, Alabama, Saturday, January 26, to take on Birmingham-Southern (AL) College and Sewanee: University of the South (TN).
