San Antonio - Trinity's men's and women's divers turned in excellent 1-meter scores Friday in the opening day of a dual-meet with State University of New York-Fredonia in Hixon Natatorium.
Trinity's men captured the top three slots on the six and 11-dive events. Daniel Valmassei turned in an 11-dive score of 550.80, Anthony Liva was second at 520.00, and Duncan MacAskill placed third, with a mark of 515.40.
Valmassei and Liva had earlier qualified for the NCAA Division III Region 2 Championships, to be held March 1-2 at Grinnell, Iowa. MacAskill picked up the first of two legs required to qualify, as did fifth-place finisher Tommy Ritthaler, who scored 427.65 on the day.
Maren Merwarth won the women's 6 and 11-dives event, with an aggregate score of 471.15. Merwath earned her second qualifying mark for the Region 2 Championships. Bella Peters was runner-up with a total score of 431.85, and gained one qualifying mark in the six-dive events.
The meet concludes Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the 3-meter board competition.
