Tiger Divers Off to a Strong Start After First Day of NCAA Regionals

San Antonio - Four divers represented the Tigers in the first day of the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Trinity at Palo Alto College.

HIGHLIGHTS

Trinity's three men started the first day strong, as all three placed in the top 5 on the 3-meter board. First-year Daniel Valmassei was the top scorer for the men's team and took second place with a score of 481.70. Fellow first-year Anthony Liva placed third with his score of 459.45, while junior Duncan MacAskill finished fourth with 432.65 points. 

Christine Peterson was Trinity's sole female diver at the meet, and after eleven round of dives on the 1-meter board, the senior finished in fifth place with a score of 396.75. 

Although qualifiers will not be official until next week, Valmassei has qualified for the NCAA Championships with his performance today. He is the first men's diver from Trinity to qualify for nationals since Ryan Cook qualified for the fourth time in his career in 2008.

 

UP NEXT

The Tigers will finish up their NCAA Regional Championship meet tomorrow with competition starting at 12:00 p.m. The women will compete on the 3-meter boards, while the men hit the 1-meter.
