San Antonio - Trinity's diving team hosted State University of New York at Fredonia (SUNY-Fredonia) Friday afternoon in the first of a two-day competition.
Trinity had two women compete in the 3-meter competition consisting of six dives. Senior Christine Peterson finished first with a mark of 214.7, while Bella Peters rounded out the competition in fourth. Peterson was one of two women to continue into the eleven-dive competion during which she defeated her opponent from SUNY-Fredonia by more than 100 points.
On the men's side, the Tigers had four divers compete in the 1-meter six-dive event led by first-year Daniel Valmassei's first place score of 291.8. Teammate Anthony Liva finished closely behind in second place, while Duncan MacAskill was fourth and Tommy Ritthaler finished sixth. All four Trinity divers continued to the eleven-dive competition, and once again Valmassei took the top spot with an incredible score of 524.6. MacAskill was able to move up two spots to finish second in the extended meet, and teammates Liva and Ritthaler finished third and sixth, respectively.
Trinity diving returns to action Saturday, January 19, to take on SUNY-Fredonia and Southwestern (TX) University. The swim team will also take on Southwestern at noon after their senior tribute, which is scheduled for 11:40 a.m.
