San Antonio - Trinity's Charles Clark has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.
The Trinity senior turned in exemplary performances in last weekend's Tiger Invitational held at San Antonio's Palo Alto College Natatorium. The Tigers finished as runners-up to NCAA Division II member Henderson State (AR) University, which placed first in the six-team field.
Clark broke his own school record in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 49.81 seconds for the runner-up position. He also earned an NCAA Division III "B" Cut mark. During the Tiger Invitational, he swam the fastest time in Division III, which is now ranked third in the nation.
His individual title came in 200-yard backstroke, with a career-best time of 1:51.08. Clark's time is currently ranked fourth nationally.
Clark swam the first leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 1:32.22, the second-fastest mark in school history. The quartet of Clark, Elliott Fleming, Shamzi Alkaff, and Cole Rezsofi is ranked sixth in Division III.
The talented swimmer was also major part of the 400-yard freestyle relay, which finished second at the Tiger Invitational. He also swam the third-place 200 and 400-yard medley relay events.
The Tiger swimmers will next compete January 9 by hosting the University of Puget Sound (WA) in Hixon Natatorium.
